Las Vegas contractors see increased service calls for repairs during rainy days

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) Channel 8 News — When it rains, the calls come pouring in for leak repairs.

Monday was a busy afternoon for Las Vegas roofing contractors and they expect it to stay busy with more rain in the forecast over the next few days.

Jason Gibson, president of Amaya Roofing and Waterproofing Inc., said it’s nothing they can’t handle.

“Just to give you an idea on a typical monsoon storm in the summer, we get anywhere between 150 to 200 service calls,” Gibson said.

He recommends a YPM, or yearly preventative maintenance, to extend the life of your roof.

“Not only is it an inspection and we get up there and see what your current situation is on your roof, but it’s also a proactive approach to eliminate any possibilities like cleaning out your roof valley and cleaning out your gutter,” Gibson added. “In residential homes that’s one of the major contributors to leaks is all the foliage that backs up.”

Heat, wind, and rain are all factors when it comes to their job. With an increased call volume, safety is always top of mind.

“It’s a challenge for the roofer because when it’s actively raining or when there’s a chance of rain, a lot of the roofing material you put down can not be applied during wet weather,” Gibson explained. “You can do temporary repair work or temporary patches to eliminate any exposure.”
